Built in the early nineteenth century the apartment is elegant and well furnished. Many original features have been retained including the detailed cornicing, ceiling roses, large windows and wooden floors. With 2 large bedrooms and 2 bathrooms the apartment can sleep 2 to 8 persons comfortably and is ideal for one large or two smaller families - but it is equally cosy for a romantic break for a couple.

Situated on the first floor to take advantage of the views the kitchen dining room is spacious with 2 windows overlooking the harbour, ideal for sipping that morning coffee while watching the fishermen unload their catch. It is fully equipped with washing machine, dishwasher, fridge freezer and all crockery and cooking equipment that you could need, including a latte/espresso machine. The large 8 seat dining table takes in the views of the harbour. There is a comfortable sofabed in this room.

The graceful lounge has the high ceilings, detailed cornicing and original ceiling rose typical of the 1800s. Again the lounge is situated on the first floor, the large window overlooks the harbour and has a window seat ideally positioned to catch a glimpse of the harbour's resident seals.

There are lots of books, games, a selection of toys and a large plasma television to keep you occupied during any inclement weather. The plush leather sofa converts into a comfortable bed.

A large bathroom is situated on this floor with both power shower and separate bath. There is also a walk-in cupboard with a high chair, cot, pushchair, cool-box, deck-chairs, windbreak, buckets and spades and fishing equipment. The cupboard is ideal for hanging wet walking or scuba diving gear to dry.

Upstairs, the 2 large bedrooms have the most marvellous views of the harbour; both have perfectly positioned window seats for taking in the views with a morning coffee or a nightcap! Both beds are large doubles and there are also slide out single beds in each room. There is a shower-room with a power shower and an office area with full broadband access on this floor.

The Herring Queen is our own holiday home and as such it is generously equipped and furnished. All beds and bedding are of excellent quality, it is equipped with full Sky and WIFI / broadband facilities, and there are plenty of books and boardgames to enjoy.

The Area

Eyemouth is a wonderful small town offering something for all visitors. Full of character, it has Georgian buildings, small wynds and alleyways, interesting shops and galleries and excellent restuarants and cafes. With the delights of a working harbour coupled with a sandy beach, Eyemouth offers traditional sea-side holidaying. Spend a few hours making or watching sandcastles being built on a beach with space to play rounders or football. Walk along the promenade, have a home-made ice cream from an award winning Italian ice cream shop. Explore the museum or watch the fishermen working in one of the last working Scottish harbours. Buy fresh crabs for a £1 or lobsters for £6 and cook them for lunch (cookery books supplied!).

Eyemouth offers a sandy north-facing beach framed by the black rocks of the bay to the west and the harbour walls to the east. This is backed by enough of the usual seaside attractions to give the area a little of that candy-floss atmosphere, without making it look tacky. And linking the two sides of the town is an attractive shopping street.

Excellent walking opportunties surround Eyemouth from cliffhead walks to Coldingham or St Abbs, to walks in the delightful surrounding countryside. Maps and walking guides are available for you in the apartment.

The golf course is happy to have visitors playing its famous 6th hole recently voted Britains "most extraordinary golf hole"!

If you are a diver- or would like to try it out there is a diving school in Eyemouth www.aquastars.co.uk. The shore diving from Eyemouth is recognised as being the best in the UK.

Berwick-on-Tweed, with its historic town walls and Duns, a fine example of a traditional Borders market town are but 7 miles away. The gardens at Alnwick, the Beamish musemn, the metrocentre and the castle of Northumberland are all easy to reach.

Weather-wise Eyemouth is situated in the sunniest and driest part of Scotland, clear blue skies are common even when the rest of Scotland is covered in rain!

The cosmopolitan cities of Edinburgh and Newcastle are less than an hour away by car or public bus service.
